Hannah is the author of Unplugged Tots, a book that helps parents nurture curiosity, creativity, and problem-solving in young children without relying on screens. Drawing on her background in tech and her passion for helping families, Hannah has created a movement that shows how unplugged play can not only lay the foundations for lifelong learning but also teach crucial skills that will help our children.
This special evening will be a chance to:
• Enjoy a glass of bubbles in a relaxed, welcoming atmosphere.
• Hear Hannah share the story behind Unplugged Tots, why she wrote it, and how it’s sparking change in homes and classrooms.
• Join in the conversation: there will be time for questions, discussion, and honest chat about the realities of parenting in the digital age.
• Get your copy of Unplugged Tots signed and meet Hannah in person.
Whether you’re a parent, grandparent, educator, or simply curious about raising screen-smart children, this will be an evening full of fresh ideas, laughs, honest parent talk and encouragement.
Big Computing Leadership Conference
I’ll be leading a discussion on Computational Thinking in the Early Years — exploring how the foundations of skills such as problem-solving, sequencing, and pattern recognition laid in early childhood can shape the innovators and creators of tomorrow.
Drawing from my research and real-world experience with Unplugged Tots, I’ll share practical, screen-free approaches to introducing computational thinking through play. We’ll unpack what this looks like in nurseries and classrooms and how simple, playful interactions can ignite and inspire our children to be curious about how the world works.
This session is designed to be hands-on and collaborative — expect to leave with fresh ideas, practical strategies, and a renewed confidence in nurturing computational thinking long before children ever touch a computer.
I’ll also be bringing copies of my book “Unplugged Tots” that is designed to support practictioners.
CAS Conference 2025
The CAS organisation exists to help computing specialist or a teacher of any subject eager to integrate digital technologies into the classroom. The CAS Conference offers insights and practical strategies for all and I'll be joining Dr Yasemin Allsop to talk about computational thinking through stories.
Teaching Computational Thinking Through Stories
Dr Yasemin Allsop, Prof Filiz Kalelioglu, Dr Melike Aslan, Hannah Hagon , UCL
Stories provide children with a natural and engaging way to explore the world, fostering imagination and creativity while making learning more meaningful. When learning is connected to storytelling, it becomes more relevant, enjoyable, and easier to remember. This is especially true for abstract concepts like Computational Thinking (CT), which can sometimes feel disconnected from children's everyday experiences. In this workshop, we explore how stories can be powerful tools for teaching CT concepts and approaches.
By embedding CT into storytelling through both plugged and unplugged activities, we create learning experiences that are interactive, hands-on, and appropriate for young learners with diverse needs. Activities such as retelling a story, identifying patterns, sequencing events, and breaking narratives into structural parts (characters, actions, and settings) naturally align with key CT skills like decomposition, pattern recognition, and algorithmic thinking. Throughout the session, we will showcase practical examples of story-based activities that integrate CT into classroom lessons. You will gain insights into how to design engaging learning experiences that not only teach computational thinking but also enhance children's literacy, problem-solving, creativity, and critical thinking skills. Whether you are new to CT or looking for innovative ways to incorporate it into your teaching, we hope that this workshop will provide valuable strategies and inspiration.

Unplug and Play: Growing thinkers in the Early Years through screen-free activities
How can screen-free experiences support the development of computational thinking in Early Years?
Hannah Hagon, Unplugged Tots founder and author of “Unplugged Tots” explores how educators can embed computational thinking skills into everyday learning without a screen in sight. Bridging research and real-world practice, Hannah shares classroom-ready activities aligned with a developmental framework for computational thinking. Through playful, low-prep strategies rooted in computational thinking, this session will demonstrate how educators can build flexible, engaging learning environments without relying on digital tools. This is not about being anti-tech. It’s about reclaiming the fun and art of unplugged play.

Story Power
I’m so exited to have been invited to run a session talking about the power of reading together and discussing my upcoming book “Unplugged Tots”
In this full-day, in-person conference, we will look at the how storytelling, sharing stories and reading can inform and enrich family learning practice, activities and programmes by exploring themes such as:
boosting well-being and relationships by reading together for pleasure
optimising learning and engagement by reading together
learning maths, science or other subjects through storytelling
diffusing difficult situations or talking about challenging topics through storytelling
dialogic learning and co-creating stories
using props and multisensory resources in story building
identity and culture formation
what do stories do: storytelling and cognition
We will also welcome storytellers and poets to help delegates experience the magic of storytelling and story co-creation first-hand.
The conference includes refreshments, lunch and networking opportunities.

CamJam celebrates Raspberry Pi’s 13th (unofficial) Birthday!
The first ever Raspberry Pi computer was released 13 years ago, but its birthday was 29th February! So, we will officially celebrate its unofficial 13th birthday on 1st March instead.
This CamJam is being hosted at the University of Cambridge Computer Laboratory (at the William Gates Building) with the support of Raspberry Pi.
Please note: this is a ticketed event with a small admission fee for adults, however if this would affect your ability to attend, please contact us
Children must always be supervised while at CamJam, so if you are under 18, please make sure you are accompanied by a parent or guardian who has their own ticket.
We are fully inclusive of technology: if your project is based around an Arduino, micro:bit or something else, we would still love to see it!
